Clarion Hotel Stockholm is located in Södermalm, a district known for its cultural heritage, boutiques, restaurants, galleries and parks.
Within the hotel's immediate vicinity you find Ringen mini mall with a large variety of shops, Åhléns department store, Eriksdalsbadet sports centre for swimming and gym, fantastic walking trails along Årsta Bay and a wide selection of restaurants and bars.
Södermalm’s shops are commonly of a trendier, younger, creative, conceptual and bohemian origin. Young, ambitious traders have driven the retail experience to new heights, often with combinations of fashion and design, new and second-hand and with cafes and galleries housed in or adjacent to the stores. Many of Sweden's talented young fashion and product designers are also represented with their own shops.
The streets around the pulsating Götgatsbacken host many stores for Swedish best known fashion brands, as well as trendy shopping galleries such as Bruno Gallerian and Götgatan 21. The nearby SoFo / South of Folkungagatan area is a broad range of small creative boutiques, galleries, cafes, restaurants and bars.
This is a district that once-upon-a-time populated the city's poorest residents, but transformed into a popular and trendy area for housing, shops and restaurants. People from all social classes gather here. The range of antique and curio shops are wide and varied. The shops and stores tend to be more competitively priced and less highly specialized than those in other neighbourhoods, translating to a wider variety of things to buy with more value for money.
When on Södermalm, one should not miss the many renovated heritage marked houses from the 1600, 1700, and 1800's. The houses once accommodating sailors and Stockholm harbour workers, are now mostly occupied by artists, actors, musicians and people of other artist-oriented professions. Walk a few extra meters to an outstanding look-out area Fjällgatan to experience some of the most breathtaking views of Stockholm.
